Tommaso Pilla has been closely dedicated to the field of anesthesia and pain management in animals since the beginning of his career. Over the years, he has cultivated a profound interest and passion for diagnostic imaging, particularly in Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). This focus has become his primary area of work and study at the Animal Hospital Postojna, reflecting his deep commitment to advancing veterinary medicine."
He attained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Veterinary Faculty of the University of Padua in 2006. Throughout his academic journey, his keen interest in anesthesia, perioperative care, and pain management was evident. Following graduation, he embarked on a rigorous clinical internship, with a primary focus on anesthesia. Recognizing his academic prowess and dedication, in 2008, he was honored with a scholarship from the University of Padua's esteemed ""Veterinary Sciences School of Doctorate.


Between 2009 and 2011, throughout his PhD studies, he undertook visits to university veterinary clinics in Bern (Switzerland) and Utrecht (Netherlands), along with several prominent private specialist veterinary centers across Europe, including Dick White Referrals (United Kingdom). These experiences were pivotal in augmenting his expertise in anesthesia and intensive care. In 2011, he was awarded a doctorate in science for his groundbreaking research in anesthesia and pain management, focusing on the pharmacokinetics of propofol and target-controlled infusion (TCI) in cats.
Tommaso joined the team at Animal Hospital Postojna in February 2011 as an anesthesiologist. He has a particular interest and expertise in the physiology and pharmacology of anesthetics, in total intravenous anesthesia, and loco-regional anesthetic techniques. Additionally, he has developed an interest and competence in computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). He was co-founder and, between 2013 and 2018, a partner at the Veterinary Imaging Diagnostic Center in Italy. Within Animal Hospital Postojna, he is responsible for the anesthesia service and the diagnostic imaging department.
Alongside his clinical responsibilities, Tommaso lectures in the continuing education programs organized by SCIVAC (Italian Association of Small Animal Veterinarians), for the II Level Master's program in Anesthesia and Analgesia of Small Animals at the University of Bologna, and other university and private courses.
He has been and continues to be a featured speaker at national and international conferences. Additionally, he has authored several scientific publications and remains actively engaged in scientific research, aiming to continually contribute to the advancement of veterinary medicine.
