His main interests are anaesthesia, perioperative care, and analgesia, but an interest in computed tomography grew in parallel to his first passion for anaesthesia.
Tommaso Pilla graduated from the Veterinary Faculty of Padua in 2006. Anaesthesia, perioperative care, and analgesia have been his main interests since he was a veterinary student. Following graduation, he continued with a postgraduate internship, focusing his training on veterinary anaesthesia. In 2008, he obtained a scholarship from the Veterinary Sciences School of the University of Padua. Between 2009 and 2011, he visited the clinics of the Universities of Bern (Switzerland) and Utrecht (Netherland) and some of the largest specialist veterinary centres in Europe, such as Dick White Referrals (UK), to improve his skills in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine. In 2011, he was awarded a PhD in anaesthesia and analgesia with research on Propofol pharmacokinetic and target-controlled infusion systems in cats.
Tommaso joined Animal Hospital Postojna in February 2011 to manage the anaesthesia service. He is particularly interested in the physiology and pharmacology of anaesthetics, total intravenous anaesthesia, and loco-regional anaesthetic techniques.
Tommaso gradually developed an interest in computed tomography that grew in parallel to his first passion for anaesthesia. He was co-founder and partner in a veterinary diagnostic imaging centre in Italy between 2013 and 2018, and he is now running the CT service at the Animal Hospital Postojna.
Tommaso is a lecturer for the continuing education courses of the Italian Companion Animal Veterinary Association (SCIVAC). He has been lecturing at national and international congresses and has authored several scientific papers.
